Continuing the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce initiative to enhance the West Dearborn Downtown Business District, the 2014 Dearborn Farmers and Artisan Market will begin on Friday, May 30th, 2014 with a kick-off celebration of spring. Besides past vendors of flowers, shrubs, and perennials, the market will offer new vendors of many types.
Most of last year’s Michigan farmers, artisans, and vendors will again provide a wide variety of quality offerings in a community gathering in the parking lot behind Bryant Public Library, located at Michigan Avenue and Mason, every Friday. The market has hours of 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. through the 17th of October.
The Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for new and returning vendors, which can be downloaded on the Chamber’s website, www.dearbornareachamber.org, or at the Farmers Market website, www.dearbornfarmersartisansmarket.com. As a special early bird offer, 2013 registration rates will apply for all vendors who sign up before March 31, 2014. After that date, spaces at the Seasonal Rate will increase from $175 to $190, and spaces at the Daily Rate will increase from $15 to $20. This year’s vendor application deadline is May 15, 2014.
“We are looking for this season to be better than ever. Besides a community event, the market supports local farmers and businesses, encouraging healthy eating with quality, fresh, wholesome food,” commented Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce President Jackie Lovejoy. “Our carefully selected vendors will be selling seasonal Michigan produced farm products and baked goods, cheeses, meats, art, soaps, salsas, jams and jellies, and woodworking products.”
The market will introduce a number of new vendors during the 2014 Market Season and will continue to provide a mix of children’s activities, sponsor tents with clinics and screenings as well as special appearances and chef demonstrations.
“As in previous years, local grade school teachers will bring students to the market for class projects, to learn money management, and the importance of healthy foods,” Lovejoy added. “Additionally, the Dearborn Farmers and Artisan Market will continue to offer the Double Up Food Bucks EBT program for qualified participants as well as the Project Fresh and Bridge Cards.”
The Center Marketplace, a marketplace held during the winter months, will continue this Sunday, March 16 and April 13, 2014 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, located at 15801 Michigan Avenue, in Dearborn. This free event is open to the public and will include Michigan made crafts, glassware, various gifts and gourmet edibles.
