Dearborn Area Chamber Announces 2016 Chamber Choice Award Recipients

Chamber Will Host Annual Awards Ceremony to

Celebrate Regional Businesses and Leaders

Business and community leaders from Metro Detroit visit expo participants at the Dearborn Area Chamber’s 2015 Chamber Choice Awards & Expo. The 2016 event, presented by Ford Land, will honor 3 outstanding individuals and organizations and over 100 businesses celebrating milestone anniversaries in the Dearborn and Metro Detroit Area on Friday, March 11 at The Henry, an Autograph Collection Hotel.

 

Dearborn, MI – The Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce will host its prestigious Chamber Choice Awards & Expo on Friday, March 11, 2016 from 11 am – 2 pm, at the Henry, an Autograph Collection Hotel in Dearborn. This awards event, presented by Ford Land, combines effective networking and business appreciation by honoring 3 outstanding individuals and businesses, recognizing over 100 organizations celebrating milestone anniversaries, and featuring an expo showcasing over 40 Metro Detroit area businesses.

 

The Chamber is thrilled to honor Neumann/Smith Architecture as Business of the Year. Neumann/Smith Architecture is one of Michigan’s largest and most distinguished design firms, honored by over 200 awards from the architectural community and numerous features in the international architectural press.  Headquartered in Southfield, with a Detroit Design Studio, the firm specializes in architecture, historic preservation, planning and interior design for corporate and municipal offices, mixed-use developments, multi-unit housing, parking structures, commercial and retail centers, and higher education facilities.

 

The firm continues to have a significant impact on Dearborn and the Metro Detroit region. Their most recent work in Dearborn includes the design of the new John D. Dingell Transit Center, City Hall Artspace Lofts, renovation of the Dearborn Administrative Center, the new Veterans Park and War Memorial, and conceptual design for the Dearborn Animal Shelter.

Mark Bublitz of Center Street Wealth Strategies is the recipient of the Business Leadership Award. Bublitz is the Vice-President and co-founder of Center Street Wealth Strategies, an independent financial planning firm in downtown Northville. Prior to co-founding the firm, Bublitz was a senior financial advisor with Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management in their Dearborn and Novi offices. He has provided a diverse group of individuals and small business clients throughout six states with outstanding portfolio management and financial advice since 1995.

 

“I am honored to receive this significant recognition from the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce,” said Bublitz. “The relationships I have built among its membership and the various people throughout the Dearborn area community continue to be rewarding in both my business and personal life.”

 

Bublitz serves on boards and various committees in several area non-profit organizations, including having recently served as a member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, the Chamber’s ambassador committee, and as co-chair of the Chamber’s golf outing committee, responsible for two annual golf outings raising funds for Chamber community programs and area non-profit organizations.

 

Matador Restaurant, owned and operated by Ray Tejada and his family will receive the Small Business Award. Matador Restaurant, located in Taylor, is a family-owned business established in 1954. The business was first started by Tejada’s grandfather, was expanded by Tejada’s father, and is currently managed by Tejada, his mother, four sisters and his son. Matador Restaurant’s motto “Be part of the family” stems from the passion and commitment of the family’s relatives and friends who helped to build the business into what it is today.

 

“We have been a part of the lives of those who live in our community with first dates, marriage proposals, baby showers. birthdays, and many other special events centered here at the restaurant,” explained Tejada.

 

Matador Restaurant produces nearly 90% of its food at their location using mostly recipes originating from Tejada’s grandparents. The business was originally a drive-in restaurant, and has since expanded to include dine-in, catering and takeout trays. Matador Restaurant has been recognized by the News Herald, Detroit Free Press, WDIV Local 4 Click on Detroit, the Consumer Business Review, and Corp Magazine.

 

The Chamber Choice Awards and Expo event connects and showcases organizations in the Dearborn Area community. The luncheon, including a video component spotlighting each awardee, will also highlight businesses celebrating milestone anniversaries, from 5 years to 220 years. The expo will enable companies to promote their products and services to 350 business owners, community leaders and corporate professionals.

 

The cost to attend the event is $55 for chamber members, with a special early bird registration price of $48 prior to February 15, 2016. Tickets for potential chamber members are $65.
